Zimbabwe Council of Churches and Tearfund Strengthen Community Resilience Through Garden Seed Support in Bikita

Staff Writer

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), with the support of Tearfund, has provided garden seed packs to 124 households from the Kudyaibadza and Mataga gardens. This effort is part of the Enhancing Community Resilience Through Sustainable Income Generating Scalable Projects initiative.

These gardens are more than just plots of land—they are lifelines for vulnerable families in Bikita District, providing essential food and income. The seed support is one component of a larger, integrated project that includes fencing of gardens, installation of solar-powered boreholes, and training in climate-smart agriculture and gardening practices.

By combining practical tools, infrastructure, and knowledge, the project aims to build long-term resilience and empower communities to thrive in the face of climate and economic challenges. With the right resources, community gardens are transforming into hubs of sustainable livelihoods and food security.

Every seed sown is a step toward a more resilient, self-sufficient, and hopeful future for the people of Bikita.
