Masvingo Hosts Massive Church Sports Gala

 SALVO SPORTS

Masvingo to Host Territorial Youth Sports Fellowship

By Gillian Chaka

A Sports delegation was dispatched to Masvingo to assess venues in the tourist resort area and after a thorough and articulate process,  Victoria High School was recommended to host Youth Games from 5th to 8th of September 2024.

This year's edition is different from the previous editions as each Division is expected to provide participants for all the available disciplines directly to the Territory. Regional competitions will be  by-passed.

All Divisions and Districts of Zimbabwe and Botswana Territory (Madagascar), are expected to take part as this is a good initiative for youths to fellowship and keep healthy.

As the Territorial Sports Ministry we encourage all divisions to take sports seriously as they are an integral part of the youths' life. Through these sporting activities raw talent will be discovered and this talent if taken seriously can take an individual very far in life.

Look at the sportsman earning a decent living through sports, it's not to be taken for granted. As we fellowship,  we expect to win souls to Christ through these sporting activities.

Many youth are idle these days and this idleness is the fuel for venturing into substance abuse and early marriages. If the youth get involved in these sporting activities, they are kept busy hence there won't be time to be experiment with drugs and uncouth activities.

We are urging all youth leaders from  respective divisions to encourage the youth to train and partake in the Youth Games bearing in mind the theme for this year's sports edition which reads: GROW, ABSTAIN FROM DRUGS AND EARLY MARRIAGES.

2013 Edition Glen View Citadel (Harare Central Division) defeated Masvingo in the final

2019 Edition Braeside Citadel (Greater Harare Division) defeated Masvingo in the  final.

Ghanaian Footballer Dies In Turkey Earthquake

It is with enormous sadness that Chelsea Football Club receives the news that Christian Atsu is confirmed as one of the many victims of the dreadful earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Atsu was a Chelsea player between 2013 and 2017 having signed from Porto. He did not make a competitive appearance for our men’s first team having spent his seasons as a Blue out on loan, although he featured in some pre-season games.

During those years, the Ghanaian international was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, also scoring the Goal of the Tournament as Ghana finished runners up.

His loans took him to Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga and Newcastle before he was transferred permanently to St James’ Park.

He moved to Turkey to play for Hatayspor last year.

Chelsea sends our heartfelt condolences to Christian’s family and friends and to all those affected by the earthquake tragedy.- Chelsea FC

Lionel Messi To Leave Barcelona?

Six-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi will leave Barcelona despite both parties having reached an agreement over a new contract, the La Liga club said on Thursday, citing economic and structural obstacles to the renewal of the deal.

Messi, who joined Barca's youth set-up aged 13, is the club's all-time top scorer and appearance maker with 672 goals in 778 games in all competitions.

The Argentina forward was free to negotiate a transfer with other clubs after his deal ran out at the end of June, but Barcelona had always maintained he wanted to stay with the club.

Messi, who has spent his whole career at Barcelona, had been expected to sign a new five-year deal with the Catalan club, which would have included a salary reduction of 50%.

Barcelona needed to financially restructure in order to get the deal over the line, which proved impossible in the end as they failed to reduce their wage bill in order and stay within La Liga's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas said last month that Barcelona, who have a total debt of more than 1 billion euros ($1.18 billion), would not be shown any leniency when it comes to obeying the league's strict financial control rules.

The news of Messi's exit comes a day after La Liga agreed in principle to sell 10% of a newly formed company housing most of its business to private equity firm CVC Capital Partners for 2.7 billion euros ($3.2 billion).

"Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish La Liga regulations)," Barca said in a statement.

"As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled.

"FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.-Reuters

Tribute To Steve Kwashi

By Japhet Short Cat Mparutsa

Sad to hear about the death of Legendary  player  and coach Steve "Bla Steve" Kwashi. He was also known as "The Cool Dude"

Many of us might not know that I played with Steve Kwashi at Dynamos, he was my number 7 after Shaya retired.  He used to call me "Tafi..." and I wondered what that meant.

Years later, I went to his shop In Sport and again he called me "Tafi.." I decided to ask him what the nickname meant.

"You are tough, so I call you Tafi..!" That was  Bla Steve for you, always humorous. He was a a good man and easy to relate with.

He played for Chibuku, Black Aces, Zimbabwe Saint's ( he lived in Harare then Salisbury and travelled to Bulawayo for matches). This shows what a special player he was.

It is such a shame that the horrific accident took away a large part of his football life. Without the accident, he would have become one of  the best coaches that Zimbabwe ever produced.

We thank the family for standing with him and looking after him to the best of their abilities. Could we as a Football family have done more to help?  I think so but as is usually the case in all football matters.. It is  out of sight, out of mind.

We should do better as a football community, stick together  in dark times. We should not forget our heroes.

Go well Bla Steve, you fought a good fight. Your football story will live on.

All of us here.. Be Blessed.

"Prophet" Travels All The Way To Ghana For Fasting Programme?

By Honest Makanyire |

Masvingo based controversial preacher Isaac Makomichi, who has been out of the country for nearly 2 weeks has resurfaced amid claims he had gone into hiding following skirmishes with leaders of a satanic church.

However, Makomichi has claimed he had gone to Ghana for a fasting programme.

Makomichi's love herb is causing division among believers.

Sources says the late Moana Mitchelle Amuli was a beneficiary of Makomichi's love muti.

On Sunday Makomichi was seen at his shrine distributing love charms to  hundreds of women.

"I was  out of  the country for a fasting programme.

Sometimes it's good to pray in different places especially during the festive season.

I'm back in town and ladies are taking the love charm like  chocolate," boasted Makomichi.

Some church leaders are sceptical of Makomichi's decision to  travel to Ghana for a  fasting programme.
