ZCC Calls For Compassion As It Breaks Silence On Mental Health Crisis

By A Correspondent - The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has called for compassion, understanding and support for people battling mental health challenges.

In a statement, the ZCC said mental health must be treated as a priority and urged Zimbabweans to end the stigma surrounding the condition.

The church body said society must create safe spaces for those struggling and remind each other that seeking help is not a weakness.

"The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) recognises the importance of mental health and calls for compassion, understanding, and support for all," the ZCC said.

"Let us break the stigma, create safe spaces, and remind one another that seeking help is a sign of strength. Together, we can build healthier and more caring communities," the organisation added.

The ZCC's call comes at a time when mental health cases are on the rise in Zimbabwe, with economic hardships, drug abuse and social pressures taking a toll on many citizens.
