The Rt Revd Martin Gordon, Anglican Bishop of Goma, says the Church is the last trusted institution in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He shared a powerful reflection on the Church’s role as a living witness of peace and generosity since the invasion of Goma by Rwandan-backed M23 rebels.
“The Church is the one institution that is still trusted in DRC. It is at the heart of every village and community,” Bishop Gordon said. “When war came, people looked to the churches for every kind of help, as well as for hope.”
He highlighted how the Church has continued to support communities, providing shelter, food, and spiritual comfort amid ongoing violence and instability.
The Bishop’s reflection comes as the region continues to grapple with the humanitarian and security impacts of the conflict, with churches playing a central role in keeping communities together.
