Christ Calls Us to Protect the Vulnerable”: ZCC Leads 16 Days of Activism in Gutu and Bikita

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) spent the past two days standing in solidarity with communities in Gutu and Bikita as part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This year’s theme, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” set a clear call for believers and community members to defend women and girls from emerging dangers in online spaces.

Government ministries present at the commemorations highlighted the urgent rise of cyberbullying, hate speech, online exploitation, and other harmful digital practices that continue to target women and girls. Their input deepened community awareness of how digital violence is expanding and why united, informed action is essential.

Guided by Christian values of love, justice, and protection of the vulnerable, the ZCC emphasized that every person is created in God’s image and deserves dignity, compassion, and safety—whether online or offline. The Church called on all people of faith to pray for survivors, confront harmful digital behaviours, support community education, and push for stronger policies that safeguard women and girls.

As the ZCC affirmed: “Our faith demands that we stand with the oppressed and work for a world where every woman and girl can thrive without fear.”

Together, let us strive for a society that reflects Christ’s love—where justice reigns and digital spaces are safe for all.
