Tendai Magaya, the wife of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya, has been granted bail by the Harare Magistrates Court, while her husband remains in custody facing separate criminal charges.
The court made the ruling after hearing arguments from both the defence and the prosecution, ordering Tendai to deposit US$500 with the Clerk of Court as part of her bail conditions.
In its decision, the court stated that Tendai Magaya had presented a reasonable defence to the allegations brought against her. The ruling marked a setback for the State, which had strongly opposed her release, arguing that she could flee or influence witnesses due to her high profile within the church.
However, the Magistrate dismissed these concerns, ruling that there was no evidence to suggest she would obstruct justice, and therefore allowed her to be released pending trial.
Walter Magaya, meanwhile, remains in custody after being remanded to November 13 on five counts of rape, while his wife’s fraud-related case proceeds separately.
