The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has joined Christian organisations and social justice movements in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the G20 We, the 99% People’s Summit at Constitution Hill, running from 20–22 November 2025.

The ZCC delegation, led by a member of the Supervisory Council and accompanied by the Local Ecumenical Fellowships, Youth Ecumenical Fellowship, and the Secretariat, is using the platform to amplify a strong Christian call for global economic justice.

According to the delegation, the church is pushing for "Reparations in the form of Debt Cancellation in the Year of Jubilee," alongside broader reforms of the global financial system and justice for the world’s poorest communities.

Day 1 Resolutions: A Christian Call for a Just World

Delegates from across Africa and the Global South outlined key resolutions aimed at challenging systems that perpetuate inequality. These include:

  1. Youth Mobilisation and Civic Education:
Delegates urged accessible civic education to empower young people and strengthen collective action. They stressed the need to define "clear non-negotiables" to confront neoliberalism, exclusion, and digital inequality.

  2. Economic Justice and Fair Taxation:
Delegates demanded firm action against unjust taxation, debt traps, extractivism, and corporate dominance in food systems. Strong calls were made to:

    • "Tax the rich!"
    • Reclaim food sovereignty through agroecology.
    • Strengthen social protection and public health systems.
  3. Global Solidarity Against Exploitation:
The summit underscored the urgency of united resistance against multinational exploitation and widening inequality driven by billionaire interests. Delegates demanded a shared commitment to peace and the protection of land, water, food, and justice — "NOT war!"

Christian organisations partnering in the broader movement include NCA - Advocacy Programme for Africa, Brot für die Welt, Christian Aid, and the World Council of Churches.

The ZCC said its participation echoes a long-standing biblical mandate for justice, hope, and restoration.
