The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has reiterated its commitment to fostering peace, justice and inclusive development, highlighting strides made through its Church, Peace and Just Societies programme.
Quoting 1 Corinthians 3:9 — *“For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building”* — the ZCC said its work continues to focus on strengthening communities and championing social justice across various platforms.
Last week, the council undertook several initiatives, including:
- **Community Peacebuilding in Buhera:** Local Peace Committees in wards 10, 11 and 12 received training to enhance social cohesion.
- **Continental Advocacy in Ghana:** At the AfCoDDV summit, ZCC joined Africa’s collective demand for debt justice, reparations and a fairer global financial system.
- **Youth and Women Empowerment in Lupane:** Dialogues created safe advocacy spaces, with calls for stronger policing, improved responses to women’s health needs and better sanitation services.
- **Gender-Based Violence Response:** At the Action Indaba on GBV, hosted by the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe, ZCC challenged patriarchal misinterpretations of scripture that perpetuate violence and reaffirmed support for survivors.
- **Promoting Everyday Feminism:** In partnership with Christian Aid, ZCC underscored the role of women as active agents shaping resilient communities.
- **Gender and Politics:** During the launch of the Gender Audit of Political Parties Report, ZCC renewed its call for gender-responsive policies and inclusive governance.
The council stressed that each of these interventions reflects its mission to advance justice, unity and transformative leadership for a peaceful and inclusive Zimbabwe
