Rev Simbarashe Sithole Elected Presiding Bishop as ZCC Hails MCZ Conference Success

MASVINGO – The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has applauded the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ) for successfully hosting its 48th Annual Conference at Masvingo Teachers’ College from August 22 to 24, 2025, and congratulated Rev. Simbarashe Sithole on his election as the new Presiding Bishop.

In a statement, ZCC expressed gratitude for the seamless organization of the event and acknowledged the significance of the leadership transition. “We celebrate the election of Bishop Simbarashe Sithole as the new Presiding Bishop and honour the faithful service of Rev. George T. Mawire, whose contributions have enriched both MCZ and the ZCC Supervisory Council,” read part of the statement.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the MCZ. “We look forward to continued partnership with MCZ in advancing unity, peace, justice, and service to God’s people,” the ZCC added.

The 48th Annual Conference brought together church leaders and delegates from across Zimbabwe to chart the way forward on spiritual growth and social engagement. Bishop Sithole’s appointment ushers in a new era for the denomination, while Rev. Mawire was commended for his unwavering dedication to Christian service and ecumenical cooperation.
