Church Leaders Speak on Economic Transformation

In a speech read on his behalf by Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) Harare Province LEF committee member Rev. Ellias Simango, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Zimbabwe, Edward Kallon, called for a bold, people-centered approach to financing the country’s economic transformation.

Reflecting on the recent Financing for Development (FfD4) Conference in Seville, Kallon urged Zimbabwe to move beyond reliance on foreign aid by mobilizing domestic resources, reforming fiscal systems, tackling illicit financial flows, and embracing innovative financing tools such as climate bonds and blended finance.

“Financing is not just about more money, it’s about using what we have more strategically, sustainably, and equitably,” Kallon said.

He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe as it pursues an inclusive development path aligned with Vision 2030 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063
