IN FULL : TC URGES MEN TO BE FEARLESS, UPRIGHT, STRAIGHT, AND BOLD - KEYNOTE ADDRESS
BY COMMISSIONER DANIEL KASUSO
TERRITORIAL COMMANDER
Theme: "Iron Sharpens Iron – Be Men of Courage"
Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
I greet you all, in the wonderful and powerful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
What a joy and privilege it is for us to gather as men at this sacred place for such a time as this!
First and foremost, I want to thank the Lord for the journey mercies He has granted to each and every one of us.
We have all come from near and far, and may emphasize that your presence here is not by accident, but by divine appointment.
A special welcome goes our dear delegates from Malawi Territory who have graced our Men’s Rally with their presence.
You are more than welcome feel at home among brothers.
Your being here adds great value to this congress, and we are truly honoured to share this special time of fellowship, worship, and growth with you.
May this time together strengthen our bonds and renew our shared commitment to the mission God has entrusted to us.
We are also honoured by the presence of our Territorial Commander, Commissioner Samuel Baah, and our Chief Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Onai Jera.
To both of you, we say thank you for your leadership and for standing with the men of this Territory.
May God continue to bless and anoint you as you lead His people.
It has been almost 10 years since we gathered in this manner as men of The Salvation Army across our Territory and what a joy it is to be together again!
I want to take this opportunity to applaud the Planning Committee for their hard work and dedication.
Truly, this Congress is already a success, and we give all the glory to God!
Our theme is taken from Proverbs 27:17, which says:
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
This is not just a slogan it is a deep and spiritual truth. The image is powerful: iron cannot be sharpened by wood or plastic it needs iron. So too, men cannot grow strong and wise in isolation we need each other.
This Congress is not just a gathering it is an encounter.
An encounter with each other. An encounter with truth. And above all, an encounter with God.
May you all make Chombira a special place where lasting memories will be cemented, where destinies will be sharpened, and where lives will be transformed.
As men, we are called to help, uplift, and encourage one another.
We are called to share wisdom, correct in love, and build together.
This weekend, we will hear various presentations, on topics that matter marriage, finances, mental health, fatherhood, and spiritual growth just to mention a few and I emphasise that my dear colleagues we have to utilize each and every moment hear.
Our theme doesn’t end with sharpening—it calls us to be Men of Courage.
The world today is full of fear. Many men are silently broken. They fear failure. They fear rejection.
They fear the future. Statistics even show a tragic rise in male suicides, depression, and silent suffering. But today I want to declare: We must rise as Men of Courage!
God said to Joshua in Joshua 1:9:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
This is the word of the Lord for each man here today.
Yes, we are surrounded by challenges. Yes, we carry responsibilities. Yes, the world is tough.
But God is calling us to be fearless, upright, straight, and bold! We need men who will face their battles head-on and not back down.
The world needs godly, honest, and spiritually alert men, men who are sharpened and not dull.
A sharpened iron is ready to cut deep—deep into sin, deep into laziness, deep into injustice, deep into fear.
As men of God, we must not be blunt instruments, ineffective, and indifferent. We must be sharpened daily by God’s Word, by prayer, by discipline, and by our fellowship with one another.
A sharp tool is intentional, precise, and powerful. Likewise, we must be spiritually sharp, ready to confront anything that stands in the way of righteousness.
We are not sharpening ourselves for decoration, but for action.
We must be so sharpened by God and each other that the Devil finds no foothold in our lives, in our homes, in our work, or in our relationships.
When iron sharpens iron, there is friction, and there is heat, but there is also transformation. Let us not resist the process of sharpening; let us embrace it, knowing that God is preparing us to stand firm, to fight the good fight, and to lead by example.
The Bible gives us a powerful image in Genesis 39:12, where Joseph, when confronted with temptation, “left his garment in her hand and fled and got out.” Joseph didn’t negotiate with sin.
He didn’t try to reason with temptation. He ran. He fled with urgency because he valued his relationship with God more than temporary pleasure. This is what sharpened men do—they don’t flirt with compromise; they flee from it.
We need men today who will run from sin, not towards it. Men who will stand for purity, integrity, justice, and truth.
1 Corinthians 16:13 also encourage us to “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
This is the posture of a sharpened man—alert, unshaken, and full of holy courage.
The Devil fears a sharpened man, a man who has allowed the Holy Spirit to remove the dullness of pride, complacency, and compromise.
Let us sharpen one another through accountability, encouragement, and truth. Let us be tools in the Master’s hand effective, powerful, and ready for every good work.
As Paul reminds Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:21, “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonourable, he will be a vessel for honourable use, set apart as holy, useful to the Master, ready for every good work.”
May we be those vessels.
May we be those sharpened men ready to cut deep and leave a lasting mark for the Kingdom of God.
As we go through this Congress, there will be time to pray. And I urge you all—do not waste this moment. Let us pray for our families. Let us pray for our children, our workplaces, our marriages, and our churches.
We are not just here to have another conference—we are here for a spiritual breakthrough.
May this Congress bring to you the healing, the restoration, the clarity, and the fire you need to go back home transformed.
Brothers, may I leave you with this final thought:
Let us be Men of God. Let us be Men of Honour. Let us be Men of Courage. Let us be Sharpened Men—ready to stand, ready to serve, and ready to conquer!
May God bless you all. May He walk with us during this Congress. And may He sharpen us into the mighty warriors He has called us to be.
I declare this Territorial Mens Congress officially opened.
God bless you all! Amen
God bless The Salvation Army! Amen
