By Elder Tafadzwa Maramba, City Presbyterian Church, Harare, Zimbabwe
On Sunday, 15 June 2025—Father’s Day—the men of City Presbyterian Church (CPC), Harare, took charge of leading the worship service, marking a special moment of spiritual leadership and reflection on fatherhood from a biblical perspective.
The theme of the service was “The Heart of the Father”, with scripture drawn from Luke 15:31-32—the concluding verses of the Parable of the Prodigal Son. These powerful verses, which speak of the father’s compassion and grace toward his wayward son, anchored the message delivered by Elder Tafadzwa Maramba.
In his message, Elder Maramba challenged the congregation—especially fathers and men—to strive for godliness in a world that increasingly glorifies the desires of the flesh.
> “The heart of our Heavenly Father is not selfish or driven by emotion, but full of mercy, forgiveness and holy love. As earthly fathers, we must mirror this heart in our families, churches, and communities,” he said.
He urged believers to shun desires of the flesh, which he described as distractions that wage war against the soul. Elder Maramba emphasized the importance of living lives led by the Holy Spirit.
> “Be filled with the Holy Spirit. Don’t be drunk with the flesh. The Spirit gives life; the flesh leads to death,” he preached passionately.
The Elder also used the opportunity to reflect on the vital role of men as spiritual leaders in their households and communities.
> “Too often, we see a crisis of leadership among men. But today, I call on every man in this congregation to return to the Father’s heart. Lead with humility, serve with love, and stand firm in righteousness.”
The men-led service included moving worship, testimonies, and a moment of prayer for all fathers and father figures in the church. It was a powerful reminder that Father’s Day is not merely a celebration of biological fathers but a call to reflect God’s heart in all areas of life.
The service concluded with a challenge to all members—men and women alike—to pursue a deeper, Spirit-filled walk with God and to be vessels of His grace, just as the father in Luke’s Gospel was to his repentant son.
“Everything I have is yours… But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again.” – Luke 15:31-32
The message of the day was clear: The Father’s heart is ever open, and His call is for His children to walk in holiness, truth, and love.
