Scripture Reading: Luke 18:35–38
By Dorcas Moyo
I thank the God of heaven who continues to keep us alive and healthy in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
In this passage, we see Jesus passing by a blind man who was sitting by the roadside begging. The man heard a commotion and asked what was happening. People told him that Jesus was passing by. Upon hearing this, he didn’t hesitate—he cried out, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Some people told him to be quiet, but he refused and kept calling out until Jesus heard him.
Lesson One: Knowing Who Jesus Is Helps in Life
The blind man cried out to Jesus because he knew who He was and what He could do. I believe he had heard testimonies about Jesus and had believed in his heart, but this was the first opportunity he had to encounter Him personally.
Lesson Two: People Can Either Help or Discourage You
When he asked what was happening, some people explained it to him. But when he started calling out, others tried to silence him. In life, there are people who will help you when you need support, and others who will try to bring you down. But I say, don’t listen to those who discourage you—listen to those who offer true help in your journey.
Lesson Three: Know Your Problem and Seek God
Blindness is a painful reality—there’s no need to pretend. The man refused to be silenced because those telling him to be quiet could see and go wherever they pleased. In matters of faith, don’t be swayed by criticism. Know your struggle, because everyone’s troubles are different. Don’t be silenced in your search for God. Sadly, today many people are being silenced in church by others.
Lesson Four: Jesus Hears Even in the Chaos
In the midst of all the noise and the crowd, Jesus still heard the voice of the blind man. Your time will come, my friend. God will hear you. It doesn’t matter where you are or what your situation looks like—when your time for salvation comes, it will reach you right where you are.
May the God of heaven bless you today.
