Zimbabwe Council of Churches Launches Initiative to Curb Irregular Migration

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has officially launched the Accelerated Ecumenical Interventions for the Reduction of Risky Flight, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the root causes of irregular migration among adolescents and youth in high-migration border areas.

The initiative, launched in Gwanda, targets areas such as Chipinge, Chimanimani, Mwenezi, Gwanda, and Bulilima. According to ZCC General Secretary Rev W. Dimingu, "Migration is not inherently negative, but when driven by desperation, it often leads to exploitation, abuse, and even loss of life."

The project seeks to:

- *Improve Access to Basic Services*: Enhance access to essential services for vulnerable youth

- *Raise Awareness*: Provide accurate information on the risks associated with irregular migration

- *Economic Empowerment*: Strengthen economic empowerment through skills training, start-up support, and financial literacy

The ZCC believes that no young person should feel forced to risk their life in search of opportunity. Through education, empowerment, and collaboration, they aim to build stronger, safer communities where youth can thrive.
