✝️The Apostle calls for discipline, to holiness, patience, and perseverance as we lay aside every hindrance so we can run with patience the race that is set before us taking our blessed Lord as our example.
As children of God, believers would suffer but these sufferings are to be considered as fatherly chastisements from God.
So believers should follow peace with all people so they can not fall from God's grace as did Esau.
Believers should be careful not to reject Jesus who is now in heaven representing them as both Advocate and Judge.
1️⃣Hebrews 12:1-11: Christians should submit to God's discipline.
⏹️This world is a spectacle of witnesses who are eagerly waiting for the redemption of the children of God.
The Apostle Peter says, "For as much then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin." (1 Peter 4:1)
⏭️So believers should take away every weight that might beset their way to salvation and run with patience the race set before us with all perseverance.
The Apostle says, "Why seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."(Hebrews 12:1)
⏹️For Christ's afflictions are a lesson and example of our faith.The Angels look at Him with reverence and adoring wonder as their Lord and King.
The Apostle Paul says, "Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords."(1 Timothy 6:15)
⏭️All forces be of good and evil look at Him some with terror of judgment to condemnation and others to salvation.
The Psalmist says,
"My flesh trembles for fear of you; and I am afraid of your judgments."
(Psalm 119:120).
⏭️Those who will be saved consider Him as the Lawgiver who shows the path of duty as the Redeemer who shows the way of life. They consider Him as the great Physician who heals their spiritual diseases and as the Pattern after which they are themselves to copy.
The Apostle Paul says, "However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting."
(1 Timothy 1:16)
2️⃣Hebrews 12:12-29: Christians should endure suffering amidst God’s mercy and God’s judgment.
⏹️So believers should put confidence in God and the hope of heavenly calling with assurance that all this is for our good as they strengthen their enfeebled hearts.
The Apostle John says, "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us."
(1 John 5:14)
⏭️For in Christ we are not come before voices ,quakes and terrifying scenes but in Christ we are come to the heavenly Jerusalem the emblem of peace, love and happiness.
The Scriptures say, "And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightning, and a thick cloud on the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled."
(Exodus 19:16)
⏹️In Christ we have come to a Saviour whose blood speaks better promises than the blood of Abel which cried for vengeance.
The Apostle says, "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." (Hebrews 10:22)
⏭️In Christ we have come to the Church of God, Church of the firstborn, whose names are written in Heaven, we have come to the Judge of all people, we have come to Jesus the Mediator of a New Covenant.
The Revelator says, "Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God: and I will write on him my new name."
(Revelation 3:12).
🅰️Appeal
Christ 's sacrifice is the all sufficient offering to God for us. He pleads with God for us and to pleads with us to God and at length brings God and His people together in heaven.
He is the Mediator of mankind that beholding and enjoying God's grace in Christ and God beholding we receive the blessing of salvation.
As He made a covenant to save to the uttermost they that come to Him, He ratified it by His blood sprinkling it upon our consciences so we may not sin against God, thereby pacifying God and purifying the conscience of mankind.
The Apostle Paul says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished to all good works."
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) Amen!!!
