By A Correspondent - Kundai Kwenda says his life today is proof that no pit is too deep for God to pull someone out of.
From battling depression, addiction and homelessness as a teenager, to now running a diamond company in the UK, Kwenda credits his turnaround entirely to faith, prayer and refusing to give up.
His struggles started early. At just 12 years old, after a suicide attempt, he was rushed to intensive care at St Anne’s Hospital in Harare. That moment marked the beginning of years of emotional pain.
When his family moved to Wolverhampton in the UK, the wounds followed him. In high school he began drinking with friends in local parks to cope. The alcohol eventually cost him his education. He later tried to make it in music, working in studios in Brixton and South London, but the addiction grew worse.
Things hit rock bottom in Aston, Birmingham. Kwenda found himself homeless, staying at the Aston Hotel shelter on Witton Road. He was admitted to rehab seven times.
"There were days I thought this was the end for me," he says. "But God wasn’t finished with me yet."
The turning point came when he surrendered his life to Christ. Through reading the Holy Bible and listening to Gospel music, Kwenda says he found strength he never had before. Prayer and church community gave him the courage to fight depression and break free from alcohol.
After a near-death experience, he made a decision to rebuild. He went back to school and earned a qualification in Accountancy from the London School of Business.
Today, Kwenda is sober, a committed Christian, and founder of Kwenda Diamonds Limited. He says the company was built on principles of resilience, second chances, and honoring God with his work.
"Life can be hard sometimes, however there is always hope. Our destination can only be determined by God, therefore we must continue to try against the odds," Kwenda shares.
He now describes himself as a survivor, entrepreneur, and advocate for faith-based recovery. Through his business and testimony, he wants others to know that your past does not disqualify you.
"God can restore anything. If He did it for me, He can do it for you," he said.
