Faith in Action: United Church of Canada and ZCC Partner to Fight Hunger in Zimbabwe



By Staff Writer – The United Church of Canada (UCC) Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Response Program Coordinator, Thivan Hoang, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Canadian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Adler Aristilde, at his residence in Harare.

Hoang was accompanied by Ms. Maria Tendai Dendere, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) Humanitarian Services and Diakonia Director, and Mr. Wellington Makunura, the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist.

During the meeting, Hoang shared insights from her recent monitoring visit to Gutu and Bikita, where she witnessed the positive impact of ongoing humanitarian and agricultural resilience projects supported by the United Church of Canada, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and the Canadian Government.

She commended the partnership between ZCC and the Government of Zimbabwe, noting that these collaborative efforts were helping to improve the resilience of vulnerable farmers amid challenging climatic and economic conditions.

“Through these partnerships, we have seen encouraging progress in strengthening food security and community resilience. The Canadian Government’s steadfast support is making a tangible difference in people’s lives,” said Hoang.

Ambassador Aristilde expressed appreciation for the strong cooperation between Canadian organisations and Zimbabwean partners, reaffirming Canada’s commitment to supporting impactful global development initiatives.

“The Canadian Government remains dedicated to working with trusted partners like the United Church of Canada and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to deliver effective, life-changing programs around the world,” he said.

The meeting underscored the power of faith-based action and international solidarity in addressing hunger and poverty. Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening local partnerships inspired by Christian compassion to ensure lasting transformation in communities.
