The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) joined local and international partners in marking Africa Human Rights Day 2025, an event that amplified conversations around reparations and the promotion of human rights across the continent.

The commemorations, which drew participants from diverse backgrounds, saw the ZCC showcasing its Mobile Information Hub — a platform designed to enhance public access to information. The initiative received considerable attention from attendees who were eager to learn more about the Church’s ongoing work in promoting social justice and human dignity.

ZCC officials expressed satisfaction with the event’s success, noting the high level of engagement. “We were encouraged by the interest shown by participants, including commissioners from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission, foreign diplomats, and members of the public,” said a ZCC representative.

Among the visitors to the ZCC stand were Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) Chairperson Commissioner Jessie Majome, diplomats from South Sudan, Egypt, and Nigeria, as well as human rights advocates.

The ZCC distributed over a thousand educational and informational materials, reinforcing its commitment to making human rights information more accessible to communities through its Information Hubs.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission for leading this timely national conversation on reparations and African human rights,” said the Council in a statement following the event.

The successful commemoration was made possible through the collaboration of several partners, including Christian Aid, Brot für die Welt, the National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) – Advocacy Programme for Africa, Community Podium, ACT Alliance Zimbabwe Forum, the Fellowship of Christian Councils in Southern Africa (FOCCISA), the Zimbabwe Election Support Network (ZESN), and Taurai Emmanuel Maforo.
