Southern Africa’s Christian Leaders Convene in Botswana for General Assembly

 


Gaborone, Botswana – The Fellowship of Christian Councils in Southern Africa (FOCCISA) has officially opened its General Assembly in Gaborone, bringing together church leaders and delegates from across the region for a week of prayer, reflection, and dialogue.


The opening ceremony set a spiritual tone with a powerful devotion, reminding participants of the assembly’s central theme of faith and unity. Delegates were also treated to a colorful cultural performance that showcased Botswana’s rich traditions, symbolizing the diversity and strength of Southern Africa’s Christian community.


In its welcoming remarks, FOCCISA extended heartfelt congratulations to the host nation, Botswana, on its Independence Anniversary, acknowledging the significance of hosting the gathering during a time of national celebration.


The General Assembly is expected to address pressing social, economic, and spiritual issues affecting the region, as well as strengthen the church’s role in fostering peace, justice, and development.


Formal business sessions are scheduled to begin tomorrow, with leaders set to deliberate on ways to deepen collaboration among member councils while responding to the challenges facing communities across Southern Africa.
