HARARE – African Apostolic Church founder, Apostle Paul Mwazha, has reportedly turned down a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and US$107,000 offered to him by flamboyant businessman and Zanu PF benefactor Wicknell Chivayo.
According to Crime Watch Zimbabwe, the 107-year-old Mwazha humbly declined the gift, saying his spiritual mission was "not about money or material possessions but serving God."
The offer came after Chivayo announced on social media that he wished to honour Mwazha for his lifelong service to the church and the nation.
In a lengthy post, Chivayo wrote:
"A CENTURION CELEBRATION... Honouring a prayerful man and celebrating 107 years of exceptional grace! After having spent my weekend in the most fulfilling manner by spending over US$900,000 buying vehicles for 15 of my fellow church members vana Madzibaba, Madzimambo, and also honouring my beloved mother (Sarapavana) with a Toyota Land Cruiser worth US$190,000, my heart was filled with even greater joy to learn that yesterday marked the 107th birthday of one of the most eminent men of God."
He continued, praising the clergyman’s lifelong work:
"Throughout his extraordinary life, Mutumwa Mwazha has made immeasurable contributions to the spiritual and social well-being of Zimbabwe. His teachings on prayer and unity have transformed generations and strengthened the moral fibre of our society."
Chivayo said the vehicle and cash were a personal gesture of appreciation.
"In recognition of your exceptional contributions to the Church and on the joyous occasion of your 107th birthday, I will be most honoured if you accept to personally receive my small token of appreciation. Please kindly send your next of kin or church elders to go to Exquisite Car Dealership on Monday morning so that Victor can deliver your wonderful birthday present of a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 ZX Series, registered in your name, by Wednesday latest. In addition, he will bring you US$107,000 in cash, representing each of the 107 years God has graciously blessed you with."
However, reports indicate that Mwazha politely refused to accept the offer. Sources close to the African Apostolic Church said the revered preacher told his followers that his ministry "has never been about worldly wealth but about faith and service to God."
The incident has sparked debate online, with many praising Mwazha’s humility while others lauded Chivayo’s gesture as a mark of respect for one of Zimbabwe’s most enduring religious figures.
