Harvesting Hope: Churches and Communities Unite for Resilience in Gutu and Bikita...

This week, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) had the privilege of hosting Ms. Lilian Zheke, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) Agriculture and Livelihood Technical Advisor, on a monitoring visit under the Scaling Up Resilience Program.

With her wealth of experience in climate-smart agriculture, food security, and community livelihoods across Southern Africa, Ms. Zheke is playing a vital role in guiding CFGB partners, including ZCC. Her work focuses on helping communities strengthen resilience, improve agricultural productivity, and build inclusive livelihood systems that empower vulnerable households—echoing Christ’s call to care for the least among us.

She was accompanied by ZCC Humanitarian Services & Diakonia Director, Ms. Maria Tendai Dendere, and the ZCC team. Together, they visited Gutu and Bikita Districts, where local authorities and communities received them with warmth and fellowship.

Throughout the week, Ms. Zheke engaged with participants from Income Generating Enterprise groups, Lead Farmers, ISAL groups, Gender Accountability Focal Persons, and Disaster Risk Reduction Committees. Her technical wisdom, combined with a spirit of servant leadership, enriched the dialogue and strengthened collective efforts toward building climate-smart, inclusive, and sustainable livelihoods.

For ZCC, these visits are not just about technical progress but also about witnessing God’s work in communities—where hope is nurtured, resilience is built, and lives are transformed. As Scripture reminds us, *“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up”* (Galatians 6:9).

Together, through faith, learning, and partnership, we continue sowing seeds of hope and resilience in Gutu and Bikita.
