Jealousy Among Believers: A Call to Embrace God’s Work in All Its Forms

By Dorcas Moyo

The priests were filled with jealousy.
(Acts 5:18)

There was a man named Ananias and his wife Sapphira who made a pledge to bring all the proceeds from the sale of their land to the church. However, temptation got the better of them. Once they held the money in their hands, the Spirit of God drifted from them, and they secretly kept a portion for themselves. Today, I won't focus on their death—that part is often overly emphasized.

What I want to highlight is how news of miracles spread throughout the city. People began lining the streets, bringing their sick to be healed. I love this part! It’s nothing new—whenever word spreads about healing or deliverance, crowds always gather. So, it should not surprise anyone today when miracles happen in churches and people flock to witness them.

The Bible says, "Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail." (Acts 5:17-18)

Today, we are surrounded by preachers who only focus on criticizing other churches instead of spreading the message of Jesus. Yet God has given different spiritual gifts to different people. For the Spirit of God and His power to grow within us, we must accept that we are called in different ways. Some have great gifts, but they stifle God's power in their churches because they are jealous of those who are more gifted.

Sadly, there are Christians today labeling other prophets and pastors as satanists, even though the Holy Spirit has never revealed to them the true source of those ministers’ power. These assumptions stem from pure jealousy. This spirit of jealousy is destroying God's work. People are starting to put more faith in churches and prophets than in God Himself.

We should celebrate when people flock to churches, because it means the work of God is growing. Healings and deliverance happening in other ministries should be a reason for all believers to rejoice, as long as it is done in the name of Jesus.

Let the spirit of jealousy be cast out from among believers. No matter who performs the miracle, as long as it is done in Jesus' name, let us say “Amen.”

Jesus, help us to discern the times we are living in, because they are evil. If you feel pain or jealousy at someone else’s success or elevation, know that your own progress will be hindered. You will never succeed with a jealous heart. Let go of jealousy and move forward. Sometimes, it’s okay to admit someone is ahead of you—life itself isn’t painful, it’s the spirit of jealousy and unhealthy competition that hurts.
