In the spirit of Christ’s love and justice, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) recently led a powerful Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) Awareness Roadshow in Bikita’s Ward 18, reaching over 500 community members across Mandadzaka, Chikuku, and Gedhe shopping centres. Rooted in the Christian call to protect the vulnerable and uphold the dignity of every human being, the campaign served as a beacon of hope and empowerment.
With a mission inspired by Proverbs 31:8—“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves”—the roadshow focused on prevention, early reporting, and referral pathways for survivors of SGBV. Through vibrant community engagement, ZCC educated participants on how to create safer environments, break harmful cultural norms, and ensure survivors can access legal aid, psychosocial support, and other critical services.
The initiative underscored ZCC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding human life and dignity, promoting healing and justice in line with Christian teachings and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 16 (Peace and Justice). By shining the light of Christ into the darkest corners of violence and silence, the Church is empowering communities to speak out and stand firm against all forms of abuse.
Together with partners such as the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, The United Church of Canada, and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, ZCC is cultivating a culture of peace, equality, and God-centered resilience in Zimbabwe.
