The Zimbabwe Council of Churches Local Ecumenical Fellowship brought together congregants and church leaders for an inspiring #Ecumenical Big Sunday at Chizungu Methodist Church in Epworth, under the powerful theme: "I Will Build My Church."
Led by Rev. F. Mashoko, the service drew deeply from the Scriptures, focusing on John 17:21 and Nehemiah 4:15–20 to emphasize the unity, resilience, and healing role of the Church in times of adversity. Rev. Mashoko called on the Christian community to serve not only as spiritual stewards but also as active agents of hope and restoration in their local contexts.
Drawing attention to John 9, he reminded the congregation that the Church must be firmly anchored in God's Word, especially in confronting contemporary social ills. One of the most pressing issues addressed was drug and substance abuse, a crisis affecting many Zimbabwean communities. Rev. Mashoko challenged churches to move beyond condemnation and become centers of awareness, counseling, and rehabilitation, actively supporting victims and families caught in the grip of addiction.
The gathering, marked by prayer, worship, and ecumenical fellowship, reflected a growing momentum among faith-based organizations to collaborate on addressing societal challenges. The event also carried the collective spirit of partners such as Brot für die Welt, Christian Aid, NCA - Advocacy Programme for Africa, the All Africa Conference of Churches, and the World Council of Churches, whose support continues to empower local faith communities.
Under the banner of #ReflectionsOfHope, the Ecumenical Big Sunday served as a call to action — a reaffirmation that the Church remains not just a sanctuary, but a transformative force for healing, justice, and unity in Zimbabwe and beyond.
