The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) is distributing rice donated by the Government of China to vulnerable citizens who recently returned from South Africa.
A total of 20 metric tonnes of rice is being distributed to hundreds of returnee households in Mwenezi and Chiredzi districts in Masvingo Province.
The two districts are among those that recorded the highest number of returnees from South Africa and are also vulnerable to climate-induced food insecurity.
ZCC said additional supplies have been pre-positioned at the Beitbridge Reception Centre to support ongoing humanitarian response.
The church body conducted distributions in Mwenezi yesterday with support from district government officials, with the exercise continuing in Chiredzi today.
ZCC expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the donation, describing it as a gesture of solidarity.
