The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has joined the Anglican Diocese of Manicaland and the Ruwona family in mourning the death of Sekuru Malachi Ruwona, the father of Bishop Eric Ruwona, a member of the ZCC Supervisory Council.
As the family and church community gather for the Requiem Mass in Rusape today, ZCC General Secretary Rev Wilfred Dimingu is standing in solidarity with the bereaved family and the wider Christian community.
Rev Dimingu has conveyed condolences to the Ruwona family, offering prayers, Christian comfort and ecumenical solidarity during the difficult period of loss.
The ZCC said it was praying for strength and comfort for all those affected by the death of Sekuru Ruwona.
"May God grant comfort and strength to the family and all who mourn, and may Sekuru Malachi Ruwona's soul rest in eternal peace," the council said.
The church also drew comfort from the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:4: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
Members of the Anglican Diocese of Manicaland, the CPCA Anglican Council of Zimbabwe, ZimGospel Masters Radio and Magazine, The United Methodist Church Masvingo District and United Theological College Zimbabwe joined in expressing their condolences.
