Zimbabwean sprinter and Salvationist Tapiwanashe Makarawu has blazed his way into the finals of the 200m at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Running in the semi-finals, Makarawu finished fourth but clocked a remarkable personal best of 19.97 seconds — a time good enough to earn him a place among the world’s best in the final showdown.
Fellow countryman Makanakaishe Charamba also impressed, narrowly missing qualification after crossing the line third in his heat with 20.03 seconds.
The accomplishment adds to Makarawu’s growing reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s brightest athletics prospects, with his feat celebrated widely under the banner of the #SeasonOfPrayerAndCommitment.
