Leviticus 26:1-39: Promises of blessings of the obedient.
God instructed His people against idolatry, making an graven image or worshiping an idol, His instructions still stand today thay we arr to be sure never to worship images nor ever make any sort of images or pictures for a religious use.
No sin is more provoking and offensive to God than this and yet people we so addicted to this and brought the anger of the Holy One.
However, God promises His people abundant blessings both spiritual blessings and physical blessings if we keep His covenant of grace upon all believers through Christ.
He promuses plenty and abundance of the fruits of the earth as He will send seasonable rain enough for bumper harvest that the land might yield its increase.
But breaking His laws, abhorring His judgments and breaking His covenant, desoising religion would result in curses.
But God's love for us is that He whispers to our own consciences not to walk contrary to His laws, commandments, statutes and judgments.
All sinners who walk contrary to God and to His truths, laws and counsels will receive the condemnation they deserve and God will chastise them by the design of the rod to humble them, soften them and bring them to repentance.
But if they harden their hearts in chastisement, God will give them over to their desires and withdraw His Abrahamic promises and blessings.
The prophet says, "Have You rejected Judah completely? Do You despise Zion? Why have You stricken us so that we are beyond healing? We hoped for peace, but no good has come, and for the time of healing, but there was only terror" (Jeremiah 14:19).
Text: "But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him" (Hebrews 10:38).
Leviticus 26:40-46: Threatenings to the disobedient and promises to the repentant
Q
When God's people sin and come back to their senses and repent of their sin, transgressions, tresoasses and iniquity, when they are humbled by the chastenings of the Lord, He remembers them and restores to them the bkessings He intended for them.
A humble heart under humbling providences prepares for deliverance and true comfort that submit to the justice of God in all His dealings if they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity.
Sin is to be punished not to be repeated again.
If we have respect for His covenant and repent of our misdeeds, He will remember the constitution of the covenant He made as He promises pardon upon repentance and the Mediator of the covenant, Jesus Christ who was promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will work true reconciliation with us and God.
If a covenant be made and kept between God and man, then God must have all the honour but if ever it be broken, then mankind must bear all the blame as they will have made a breach anr contempt of His corrections which He uses by the rod to bring repentance and a turning away from sin.
The Psalmist says, "To the faithful You show Yourself faithful, to the blameless You show Yourself blameless; to the pure You show Yourself pure, but to the crooked You show Yourself shrewd. For You save an afflicted people, but You humble those with haughty eyes" (Psalm 18:25-27).
Texts: " My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction" (Proverbs 3:11)
"And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son, despise not you the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of him" (Hebrews 12:5)
Appeal
However, when God's chastening rod is not heeded and does not bring the resultant reformation He seek then God will send a powerful delusion so that they may believe a lie as truth.God’s design in punishing is to reform by giving mankind sensible convictions of the evil of their sin and obliging them to seek Him for relief.
This is the primary intention, but those that will not be reformed by the judgments of God must expect to be ruined by them.
The Wiseman says ,"He who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy" (Proverbs 28:13). Amen!!!
