*UNDERSTANDING THE ACTS AND WORDS OF JESUS CHRIST (78)*

_And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm"_ (Matt 8:26).  In this instance, it was almost like a report card. Obviously, Jesus knew that the storm was going to arise. I believe Jesus was using this moment to see how much they had learned from being around Him. Remember they had heard Him teaching and seen Him perform numerous miracles, but had they grown - and more importantly had their faith grown? This situation revealed that the disciples' faith still needed some work. It was obviously little at this time. However, there's something amazing about Jesus. When He saw their faith was small notice what He did. He immediately did something that would begin to build their faith. He got up, rebuked the winds and the waves, and the result was that the men were amazed. He gave them the test. They didn't pass and He immediately began working on building up their faith because He knew it was lacking. He didn't cast them aside, but He worked harder to help them grow. He will do the same for you. Actually, that's how He handles us.

God will bring the test and if you don't pass He won't cast you aside - He will work in you to increase your faith so that the next time round you will do better. That's the kind of God we serve. The terms "Great faith" and "Little faith" simply mean this: Some truths are easy to believe while others are difficult. If you believe something that is difficult to believe, then you have great faith. If you do not believe something that's relatively easy to believe, then you have little faith. Since faith is the conviction or persuasion that something is true, people who have little faith have not been persuaded or convinced of even the basic truths, whereas, people who have great faith have been persuaded or convinced of some of the hard and difficult truths which few people come to believe. _The terms "Great faith" and "Little faith" describe the difficulty of the truths that are believed._ Little faith regularly walks in unneeded fear. And those of little faith are marked by many doubts. Their comprehension of truth concerning God haven't expanded much.
