DAILY BIBLE STUDY EXPOSITIONS - EXODUS 40:1-38

with Elder Elico Manenji

Exodus 40:1-33:The tabernacle set-up, consecrated and Aaron and His sons annointed

The Lord told Moses and ordered him to set up the tabernacle itself first in which God would dwell  and be served among His people. He was to put the Ark of the Covenant in its place and cover it with the veil, then fix the table, the candlestick and the altar of incense without the veil thus fixing the hanging of the door before the door.

In order that our worship and services be meaningful, suitable, acceptable and efficient we need to seek the teaching and direction of the Holy Spirit in every aspect.

God directed Moses when he had set up the tabernacle and all the furniture of it to consecrate it and annoint the furniture with oil which was prepared for that purpose. Every thing was sanctified when it was put in its proper place and not till then, for till then it was not fit for the use to which it was to be sanctified.

The Tabernacle as a whole prefigured Jesus Christ, the Person in whom “God in very deed dwelt with man upon the earth.” Its white-robed priest were the shadow of His righteousness who was holy, harmless, undefiled, the only true High Priest of our profession.

The bleeding lamb laid upon the altar is the likeness of that Lamb of God by whose precious blood we have been redeemed from all iniquity as its innermost sanctuary is the type of that heaven into which He has entered to make atonement for my sin.

The outer apartment is the analogue of the present world wherein out Saviour was born and suffered and into which we are to serve Him with the incense of our devotions, the light of our characters and the fruit of our lives.

The incarnation in the person of Christ, the mediation and expiation of His priestly work and the consequent obligation under which His redeemed people live to honour Him with unceasing service and shining holiness, as He stands daily to mediate, expiate and consecrate us for His holiness and favour.

The consecration and anointing of Aaron and his sons were a symbol of the worshippers who are to be dedicated to their service, to tell us that we are the priests of God sanctified for holy use in a world of sin.

Text: "Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word" (John 17:18-20).

Exodus 40:34-38: Then Lord's glory covered the tabernacle that no man could enter

Because all things were consecrated and anointed with sanctfying oil, God became the Owner of them owned them as He showed Himself well pleased with what had been done. He covered the whole tabernacle with His glory and He dwelt within and around about the tabernacle.

God, so dwells within the hearts of those of a broken and contrite heart, the clean and holy heart, that is furnished for His service and devoted to His honour, such shall be His rest for ever and here will Christ dwell by faith. Where God has a throne and an altar in the soul, there is a living temple and God will be sure to own and crown the operations of His own grace and the observance of His own appointments.

As God revealed Himself in a Cloud and Pillar of fire yet manjfested His glory, it is so in Jesus who is the express image of the glory of God. In Him the fulness of tje Godhead dwells and so blessed be God for the gospel of Christ in which we all with open face behold as in a glass  not in a cloud, the glory of the Lord. The Apostle says, "For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9).

⏺️The cloud became a protection of the tabernacle and so those that dwell in the house of the Lord are hidden there and are safe under the divine protection.

*_🗝️Text_*  *"He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty"(Psalm 91:1).*

 *_🅰️Appeal_*

Christ is our forerunner, He has for us entered the very presence of God in the heavenly tabernacle and He invites us to come boldly even to the mercy-seat by His blood so we can receive mercy in time of need. He Himself the true tabernacle filled with the glory of God even with the divine grace and truth. In Him the shechinah took up its rest for ever for in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily, so praise and glory be to His name. The Apostle says, " *And the Word was made flesh, and dwelled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth"(John 1:14).* Amen!!!
