DAILY BIBLE STUDY EXPOSITIONS - REVELATION 16:1-21
with Elder Elico Manenji
In this chapter, the seven angels pour out their vials of Gods wrath on the earth and terrible things happen. The plagues affected those who worshipped the beast, who had the mark of beast and number of his name.
Then one of the angels is heard announcing that Christ comes as a thief in the night but blessed are they that watch to the end.
_The seven last plagues to be poured upon the earth are similar to the seven plagues that affected the Egyptians in which they could not imitate. The first three of the ten plagues in Egypt that Moses performed were all imitated by the Egyptian magicians, astrologers and charmers but the other seven, they could not imitate. These plagues are a testimony to the world of the superior authority and power of God to defeat the machinations of the dragon, the beast and the false prophet. The plagues demonstrate the justice of God and finally will bring to Him honor and glory to His name._
_1. Revelation 16:1-2: The first angel poured out his vial_
As the first angel is commissioned from the throne room, he poured out his vial and a noisome and grievous sores fell upon people who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped his image. This is plague similar in reference to the sixth Egyptian plague of boils and blains or sores that affected them.
The Scripture says, "And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was on the magicians, and on all the Egyptians" (Exodus 9:11).
*_2. Revelation 16:3: The second angel poured out his vial_
The second angel was also commanded to pour out his vial on the sea and it became red like blood of a dead people and every living thing in the sea died. The sea is the international highway for travel, trade and commerce which is here going to be obstructed and stopped to thwart the devil's plans to control the nations of the earth.
This plague is similar with the second trumpet, the Revelator says, "And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood" (Revelation 8:8)
_3. Revelation 16:4-7: The third angel poured out his vial_
The third angel poured out his vial on the rivers and fountains of waters and they became blood.
This plague is in reference to the first plague that affected the Egyptians and so whatever plagues God inflicted on the Egyptians in former times, He will inflict on the enemies of His people in all later times.
The Psalmist says, "He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish"(Psalm 105:29)
Then a voice is heard praising God for His righteous acts to avenge the blood of saints and prophets which the wicked had shed, and now He gives them to drink.
It's like God saying, "Satisfy yourself with blood for which you have thirsted after and for which you had desired to shed.
The prophet Isaiah says, "And I will feed them that oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob" (Isaiah 49:26).
_5. Revelation 16:8-9: The fourth angel poured out his vial_
The fourth angel was commanded to pour out his vial on the sun to scorch people with great heat who blasphemed the name of God, who have no sense of their sins nor any thoughts of turning to God, nor any sense of confessing their sins, and giving God the glory but instead became mad, enraged and reproach God’s justice, they prove a hardened generation given over to ruin as Pharaoh who said, *"Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go"(Exodus 5:2).
_6. Revelation 16:10-11:The fifth angel poured out his vial._
The fifth angel his commanded to pour out his vial on the seat of the beast and his kingdom was full of darkness and they gnawed their tongues. in pain.
The seat of the beast is it's throne, it's home, it's center of the power, the representative of which that power occupied.
This plague is not meant for the final overthrow of the beast but just to affected it with pain as it caused on the saints and deception of the world.
The Scriptures say, "And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days" (Exodus 10:22)
_6. Revelation 16:12-16: The sixth angel poured out his vial_*
The sixth angel poured out his vial on the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
The river Euphrates passed through Babylon, it was the source of water for the city, so the source of sustenance for the beast will be cut as when the Medes and Persians invaded and ended the rule of the Babylonians.
The prophet Daniel said of the writing on the wall, "And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it"(Dan 5:25-26).
The three unclean spirits like frogs from the mouth of the dragon and of the beast and of the false prophet which is the spirits of devils, working miracles to deceive the world. The dragon, the beast, and the false prophet are evil powers at work in the world now, they are the false trinity, working to deceive the world with their magic powers, they are like frogs which are not for their amphibious nature, they stay in both water and land, so the three appear religious yet pagan and evil.
The Revelator says to the Laodiceans, "I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I would you were cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth"( Revelation 3:15-16).
Then the promise of Christ to those who have rejected Him and blasphemed the name of God is, "Behold, I come as a thief..", as He promises, "Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame."
The Apostle Paul says, "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night"(1Thessalonians 5:2)
Revelation 16:17-21: The seventh angel poured out his vial.
The final angel, the seventh angel poured his vial into the air and there were voices, thunders and lightning, a great earthquake and God remembered to give Babylon(beast) the wine of His wrath. The air stands for the whole earth, the the kingdom of Satan.
The Apostle Paul says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places"(Ephesians 6:12)
The punishment here meted out will result in ultimate overthrow of the papacy and her evil influence on the world.
When Joshua fought against the Amorites at Gebeon, the Scripture says, "And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven on them to Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword"(Joshua 10:11)
Appeal
Now is the time to listen and hear the Word of God, but His wrath will be upon every power and people who blaspheme His name, its a woe to the atheist who does not believe now that there is a God in heaven, a woe to the false prophet who has a false word for the people and a woe to leaders of the world who do not repent of their wrong doings but force people to do things against their will and finally a woe to the religious who made people to believe a lie.
Jesus said, " For had you believed Moses, you would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe my words?"(John 5:46-47).
Amen!!!
