DAILY BIBLE STUDY EXPOSITIONS - HEBREWS 10:1-39

✝️The Apostle repeats for emphasis that sacrifices and offerings which we done during the Levitical priesthood were not effective enough to cleanse mankind from sins.

For the Law was a mere shadow of good things to come and the sacrifices which were made under it could never render those who offered them perfect because they continued to offer them.

So, God had designed a better sacrifice in the Redeemer of the world who when He came a body had been prepared Him for this work.

So, when God said that He had no pleasure in the offerings under the Law, Christ came and offered his body once for all in order that an effectual atonement might be made for sin.

The Apostle shows how this one great offering of Christ was connected with the forgiveness of sins and which had the effect of perfecting forever those who were sanctified by His blood.

Because of this great sacrifice, believers can come near to God with full assurance of faith and holding fast the profession of faith without wavering.

1️⃣Hebrews 10:1-18:Christ's perfect sacrifices brings mankind to God.

⏹️The point here is that under the Mosaic law the ancient sacrifices were an imperfect representation of the perfect sacrifice of Christ.

It was a dim outline of the blessings which the gospel of Christ would impart to worshippers of God.

The Apostle says, " If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?"(Hebrews 7:11)

⏭️To prove the unreal nature of these ever-recurring sacrifices, the writer argues that otherwise they would have ceased to be offered for the worshippers would have been once cleansed from their guilt and would have had no more conscience of sins.

The Psalmist says, "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."( Psalm 103:12)

⏫ The reasoning is not that God would have ceased to require sacrifices but that the worshipper would have ceased to offer them continually as they would have known that a sacrifice sufficient for atonement of sin has been offered to God.

So the sinner would have known that one sacrifice was enough and sufficient to clear sin and guilt resulting in peace and a clear conscience.

The Apostle Paul says, "For this is my covenant to them, when I shall take away their sins."(Romans 11:27)

⏹️The sacrifice of Christ brought to the sinner a perfect sanctification from dead works and an everlasting result of carrying out the will of God which result in the expiation of the people's sin by the body of Jesus Christ.

The Psalmist says, "I delight to do your will, O my God: yes, your law is within my heart."(Psalm 40:8)

⏭️Christ offered one perfect sacrifice for sins and this one sacrifice saves all who believe, it gives hope of eternal life and resurrection of the dead.

The prophet Isaiah says, "I, even I, am he that blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and will not remember your sins."( Isaiah 43:25)

2️⃣Hebrews 10:19-25: The sacrifice of Christ perfectly atones for sin bringing the sinner closer to God.

⏹️The sacrifice of Christ gives assurance and boldness to approach the throne of grace with confidence, providing mankind with a new way of living a consecrated life of belief and faith.

The Apostle Paul says, "And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."

(1 Corinthians 6:11)

⏭️The sacrifice of Christ brings the profession and confession of our faith to God without wavering, without fear and without doubt.

If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus thou shalt be saved.

The Apostle John says, "Hereby know you the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God."

(1 John 4:2)

⏹️For God who promised salvation, deliverance and eternal life is faithful to keep His promise.

So, since God is so faithful to us, we too ought to be faithful to him as this should keep us encouraged to do His will as we consider one another in love as He loved us.

The Apostle Paul says, "God is faithful, by whom you were called to the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord."(1 Corinthians 1:9)

3️⃣Hebrews 10:26-39: Rebellion against the all cleansing sacrifice results in death.

⏹️The Apostle points out that if we sin wilfully after we receive knowledge of the truth there remains no sacrifice for sin.

The preacher says, "Keep your foot when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil." (Ecclesiastes 5:1)

⏭️Apostasy and rebellion is not one act of sin but a continued state of mind and conduct.

It is a falling away from.the truth persevered in to the close of life and issuing in a state of hopeless wretchedness.

The prophet Samuel said, "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king." (1 Samuel 15:23)

⏹️The death of Christ was the only real and proper sacrifice for sin.

The sacrifices under the Levitical priesthood were figurative, they were a shadow and His sacrifice was the substance.

So those who reject the substance, which is the sacrifice of Christ are left without hope and without life as they continue to tread Christ under foot.

The Apostle Paul says, "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith." (Galatians 3:11)

🅰️Appeal

The atoning sacrifice of Christ brings confidence to approach God's throne, it drives away fear, it cleanses the conscience of sin as we are welcomed into the divine presence.

Sin had closed our way to heaven and to the tree of life but the all sufficient sacrifice of Christ opened the way for all who come to God with confidence.

Today, can be your day or redemption, today.

The Apostle says, "To day if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation"

(Hebrews 3:15).

Amen!!!
