What is your motive?

 Showers of blessings

Reverend Nobbington Murambadoro

Matthew 6:1- "Take care not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward [reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven. Thus, whenever you give to the poor, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites in the synagogues and in the streets like to do, that they may be recognized and honored and praised by men. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already.......... Also when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by people. Truly I tell you, they have their reward in full already."

My biggest question was: what does Scripture teaches us here? Is it bad to give? Should we hide our good works. In the previous chapter JESUS taught us to let our light shine before men. So why hiding that light of good deeds now?

Scripture is so amazing Brethren. JESUS is teaching about the motive of doing things. HE is rebuking self glory motive. There are people who do things with the motive to be seen and be glorified. Now JESUS is saying, let your motive be to bring glory to GOD. HE said: "let your light shine before so that they will glorify your HEAVENLY FATHER."  Remember we exist to serve the will and purpose of GOD. Do everything for GOD'S Glory. Amen.
