RELATIONSHIPS DEVELOP FROM WISDOM

“And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.” (1 Samuel 18:5)

In the book of 1 Samuel 18, the Bible introduces the David and Jonathan relationship, with emphasis on David’s poor background.

By divine providence, God created an opportunity that brought them together. God also created an event that made David to shine. This gave him the opportunity to stand before the king.

The heart and the soul of Jonathan were so knit with David’s that he loved him as his own soul. Based on relationship, Jonathan was ready to give himself up; to give his life up for David’s sake.

The Bible says David “behaved himself wisely” (1st Samuel 18:5). He didn’t look at the things around. He saw something unique.

He saw a benefit. He looked into the future. He was very mindful, and so Jonathan was attracted to him. Immediately David was done speaking, Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

The Bible makes us to understand that by virtue of the rich relationship between David and Jonathan, when David finally became king, he remembered the kindness and generosity that Jonathan showed him, and said, “Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”(2 Samuel 9:1)

My beloved, wherever you find yourself, strive to build a good and rich relationship with those you meet, because you never can tell what will become of anybody.
